Vintage Reinhold Merkelbach German Beer Stein 1624 Lord's Prayer Pewter Lidded
Vintage Reinhold Merkelbach 1624 Lord's Prayer Pewter Lidded German Beer Stein. This is a handsome vintage Reinhold Merkelbach beer stein with The Lords Prayer (Vater Unser) in German in a distinct rich brown salt glaze. This stein was initially produced as S. Gerz model 1624 in the early 20th century. The mold became the property of Merkelbach when Gerz left the Steinzeugwerke marketing consortium following World War I but was not put into production by Merkelbach until several decades later, first appearing in a catalog dated 1955, after which it was regularly reproduced bearing the original Gerz model number throughout the remainder of Merkelbachs existence. This kind of a jug (long and tall) is in the German language called: Schnelle. The stein is 14 inches tall from base to top of lid with the mouth about 2 inches in diameter, the base is about 4 inches in diameter and it holds 1 ½ liters.
Both the stein and lid are in excellent condition showing only minor signs of wear. Stamped on the base Made in Germany, RMG (Reinhold Merkelbach Grenzhausen, Germany) 1624, E.
